Moreton Bay Able Anglers provides an essential respite service, a service that is not simply fishing, it is emotional support and rehabilitation to our participants.

Due to the current lockdown or Home Confinement Order as set by Queensland Health and in particular, Dr Jeannette Young we were concerned about the continuation on our services, our initial thoughts were that people would just assume we are fishing or that we are bending the rules, however, when we have explained our service offering to Queensland Police, Queensland Government and Queensland Health, they have all understood the importance of our services.  More so during this pandemic.

We recently received and reported our update 12/04/2020 whereby, Inspector Lee Jeffries from the Moreton District, Queensland Police Service advised our services are considered an essential service and that we are excluded from the Home Confinement Order stating “The provision of respite services is not regulated by the Chief Health Officer’s Non-Essential Business Activity and Undertaking Closure Direction No.5 – 9 April 2020. Therefore, there is no prohibition on the business continuing.”

Since this letter was received, today, 19 April 2020, we received an email from Queensland Health, this official email earmarking our greatest achievement to ensure our participants can continue to receive their respite service and recreational activity within the respite realms.
