For any NDIS participants who love being on the water and fishing I would like to tell you about a wonderful provider that my son uses. Able Anglers has the motto “Reel Opportunities for Real People”.
Last Tuesday I accompanied my son on a catamaran trip from Shorncliffe across to Moreton. His carer could have gone with him but I wanted to see how he would go. We both had a wonderful day.
My son is in a wheelchair and has quite significant communication difficulties however he felt valued and included and had lots of people to chat with. The other participants had varying degrees of disability but that was all forgotten as everyone was just having a lovely time on the water.
The carers had an opportunity to network on the trip over and back and they all just got in and helped whoever needed it. There were a few fish caught and a few got away, but the highlight of the day was passing a pod of whales who put on a glorious show of breaching and tail slapping for us. This just topped off the day.
My son spent the rest of the evening telephoning family to tell them about his experience.
My son also fishes with Able Anglers each week from the old Hornibrook Highway fishing platform at Clontarf and he also participates in their barbecue boat trips at Bribie Island once a month. He is beginning to make strong friendships with like minded people who like fishing but also the social inclusion of the group.
Steve, who runs Able Anglers is a fabulous fellow who is passionate about his mission to provide opportunities for people to be themselves, feel included and to have the opportunity to extend their possibilities.
I highly recommend this provider.
